Easter Smiles and Treats

Easter is such a fun time for the kids. They get to run around all crazy like and look for treat filled plastic eggs!
This Easter my dad and Ivete planned the Easter Egg Hunt. We gathered at their home for a fun and relaxing dinner. After we were sufficiently filled, the kids were let loose to scout out the eggs.
The kids ran around the house and collected every last egg in less than ten minutes. Jackson found the most followed by Alex. Kayla found a few more than Annalee. The kids had a great time.

When I was little, my parents would fill plastic Easter eggs with healthy snacks like raisins and banana chips. I absolutely loved the banana chips. I remember my dad showing me how he would die Easter eggs when he was a young boy. He would have me collect the dandelion flowers that were growing in the grass. After we had enough flowers, he sent me over to my grandma's house to scavenge for some onion skins. With the dandelion flowers and onion skins, he would wrap the egg. First dad would put the flowers onto the raw egg and tie them on with some string. After the flowers were secure, he would wrap the egg with the onion skins and then secure the skins with the string also. After the egg was completely covered we would boil it. Once it was hard-boiled and the skins and flowers were taken off, it was almost too pretty to eat. I would have loved doing this with Jackson this Easter but we didn't have any dandelions. We died the eggs with a store bought kit. Not as authentic but Jackson had fun.

What a great memory about your dad and how he dyed Easter eggs. This is a great family history story. And I loved the pictures of the kids. I can't believe how big they are getting.

They almost all dye their easter eggs like the old fashioned way in Latvia, I was shocked that dad had some Latvian in him. I love your pictures, wish I could've been there.

How fun. I wished I could have been there to see the babies hunt for eggs! I was so tickled to see your blog site. I didn't know that you had one.
