Over Mother's Day weekend, a couple friends and I went on an adventure to Southern Utah. The anticipation of ridding ourselves of the 'mom' and 'wife' title was all we needed to make this trip a reality. The never ending routines of motherhood can ware on my nerves and so I jumped at the chance to get away. Scotty was so sweet to support my need to escape and even took off two days of work to stay home and be 'mommy.'
The girls and I took on a strenuous hike in Zions National Park. Angel's landing is a five mile hike round trip. The first two miles up was pretty standard for any hike in Zions, hot and beautiful. The last half mile to the top was what made this hike unique. We had to scramble over sandstone boulders and use heavy duty chains to pull ourselves up through crevices and across sheer cliff ledges. It is quite empowering to survive a hike like this.
We ended the evening like any other group of girls would. After watching a late night chick-flick, we had ice cream and stayed up late, talking. The following day we saddled up a few jumpy horses and hit the trails in St. George. After a hot dusty ride, we toured the Brigham Young home and a sculpture exhibit at the St. George Temple Visitor's Center.
It was a great weekend that I did not want to end. We got home at about 1:30am and still made it to Church that morning.
